1965	PhD from the Faculty of Science of the University of Leiden (with honours). Dissertation: Morphogenesis and Biochemical Processes in Schizophyllum commune Fr.
1966-1967	Postdoctoral work at the Department of Microbiology, Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis, Indiana and the Department of Plant Pathology, University of California, Riverside, California.
